About the Arts Council

The Bulkley Valley Community Arts Council is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness of and participation in the arts - whether visual, written, performance, spoken, or virtually any other form. It is centred in Smithers, in northwestern British Columbia, and serves a population base of perhaps 20,000, scattered over a large, mountainous area. The members of the Arts Council are primarily local arts groups; the Arts Council provides organizational support, facilitates cooperation among arts groups, and offers limited financial support for arts projects and art students. It also engages in advocacy on behalf of its member groups and of the arts in general. Members include theatre, music and writing groups; spinners & weavers' guilds; the library, art gallery and the museum.
